Jose Sanchez BVSc MRCVS
I grew up on a small family farm in Southern Spain, riding my own horse on a paradisiac sandy beach on the Atlantic coast.
I graduated from the University of Cordoba, in 2000 and after my graduation, I moved to Surrey in the UK, where I had my first professional experience outside Spain. I then undertook an internship at San Vicente del Raspeig Equine Hospital in Alicante, Western Spain, and while working as a veterinary surgeon, I gained extensive experience managing emergencies such as colic surgeries and undertaking stud work.
In 2004, I moved back home and started as an associate in my own private practice providing veterinary care to showjumpers, dressage horses and working horses. I then had the chance to work with horses abroad where I gained a great deal of experience in equine lameness and sports medicine. I moved to the Middle East, Abu Dhabi, where I worked from 2010 until September 2020. I really enjoyed working in the desert with international showjumpers and ultra-endurance horses, focusing on lameness, diagnostic-imaging, and horse performance, and I am an FEI Endurance Veterinary Treating Official.
I have special interests in equine lameness diagnostics, sports medicine, and cardiology. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my wife Inese and children, Sebastian and Felipe, practising outdoor sport.
