About Us

Find out more about Blaircourt Equine in Chelmsford, Essex

Blaircourt Equine Veterinary Clinic has been in operation for over 30 years. We offer a prompt & reliable ambulatory service, as well as excellent purpose built facilities in Woodham Ferrers, less than ten miles from the centre of Chelmsford.

The practice area covers Essex, Hertfordshire, North London & the Southern parts of Suffolk. However, our veterinary surgeons regularly travel around the UK to carry out “Pre-Purchase” examinations.

Blaircourt’s veterinary care covers all aspects of preventative medicine, such as worming schedules and routine dentistry, to more complicated medical matters such as Arthroscopy and Laser surgeries. We are fortunate that our veterinary surgeons have a wide variety of interests ranging from orthopedics, back issues and reproduction and have gained an excellent reputation in this field, especially when faced with chronic, low-grade lameness.

Our philosophy towards veterinary care is simple – to use the highest level of diagnostics and treatment appropriate to any given case, whilst at the same time, maintaining a good mix of care, compassion and common sense in treating your horse or pony. This applies to ALL our patients, be it foals, leisure horses, competition horses or geriatrics. We pride ourselves on a trusting client-vet relationship and the vets at Blaircourt are available for informal chats on the telephone to reassure owners and answer any queries they may have.

Following the relocation of Patrick Martin in 2014, Mark Meter welcomed two new partners, Patrick Traill and Ralph Hege, after which the practice has continued to go from strength to strength.

Due to the clinic’s ongoing success, we have now been able to substantially re-invest. For example: we have expanded our nurse training programme and currently have two members of staff studying to become qualified Equine Veterinary Nurses. Our state of the art equipment has been upgraded and added for example; a new therapeutic and surgical laser system (ideal for effectively removing sarcoids), mobile Gastroscopy unit, the latest haematology and biochemistry machines to produce the most accurate and “on the day” blood results; new state of the art anaesthetic monitoring equipment; digital radiography equipment, to mention but a few. This philosophy of re-investing profits back into the practice is what we feel allows us to provide a first class service and makes us to stand out from the crowd. To this we must thank our very loyal clients and their treasured charges.

We have also developed excellent working relationships with surrounding hospitals. Should we feel it necessary, we may advise referring your horse to one of these facilities whether it be for emergency colic surgery or further diagnostic imaging such as Scintigraphy or MRI.
